The working definition of a home based business is any business that you work out of your home where you pay the cost to be called the boss. It is this lure of being your own boss, calling all the shots and making “insane riches” that have driven many people to pursue the idea of having an internet business. Today, you will find many types of online business opportunities. A few are direct selling, MLM (multi-level marketing) and affiliate marketing.

The great internet “gold rushes” for instant riches online can be hazardous to your financial health. Instead of finding a pot of gold, it is estimated that 95% drop out rates exists among these home based business owners. It has been reported that the highest percentage of those who drop out occurs within the first 3-6 months. This high drop out rates is said to be contributed to the high expectations of “instant wealth” with little or no effort. This mind set coupled with little or no experience in marketing and promoting an online home based business insures their demise.The sad fact about the whole thing is that “it’s not their fault”.
When setting up an online home based business, here are three tips to keep in mind:.

1. When you join or sign up with an online home based business opportunities, check to make sure there is a successful marketing and promotion program in place that you can utilize for making money in the business. This goes beyond weekly training calls, tapes, CDs and brochures that you may have to purchase by the thousands. You need a marketing and promotion system that will help you grow your online business.

2. Operate your business like a business and not a hobby. If you operate your business like a business, it will pay you like a business. If you operate your business like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby. Get a daily planner and write down specific goals that you want to accomplish each day base on the number of hours you plan to “work your business.” Plan your day the night before. If you have 6 tasks you want to do, write them down and prioritize your list using the numbers 1-6 to set the priorities.

3 Take a “gut check”. In other words, do you really have a burning desire to achieve your dream or financial goal. You must be willing to burn all your bridges and never look or even think about turning back. You must have a mind set to do whatever it takes to reach your dream.
If you have these three things, you will be able to set up a successful online home based business.

Network Marketing Success-How Long Shall I Stay With My Current MLM Company

People get involved in network marketing with high hopes of success and what that success is going to mean for them and their family. This is great! Although we may have different dreams and goals for what success in network marketing will give us we have similar reasons. This is usually a better quality of life.
You may get disillusioned when after a while things don’t seem to be working the way they have anticipated. Don’t worry this happens to all of us. This usually happens within the first 3 months. These feelings are normal but it is what you do from now that really matters.
If you are seriously considering whether you do want to remain with your current network marketing company or not you do need to consider a few things. Can the network marketing company deliver what I need if I am willing to give it 100%? Maybe you got in not fully understanding all the facts?

If you can honestly say that you have given it your all for at least 12 months and it's not working for you then you could consider whether you should look at doing something else. It would be a shame to give up after months and months or even years of work just before it starts to explode.

Another thing you need to consider is have you sponsored other people. Remember you have made a commitment to them when you signed them up. If you left how would it affect them? Network marketing is a people business. See how your downline feels. Maybe they have similar concerns as you. Whatever you do never try to talk them out of the business. Above all things they may see you as a looser. If they are doing fine encourage them to keep going. They could be able to help you if they are doing well. They may have found better ways of promoting the business.

If you can honestly say you have given it you all for 12 months, and you have made the decision to try something else, now is the time to investigate what else is out there. Look at various opportunities; educate yourself on what is needed to be successful. Find the network marketing business with the pension plan, system and support structure at suits you best.
Some people go with more than one network marketing company. This could be either good or bad. Remember a business will only work if you work it. If time is an issue sticks to one. It is best not to keep changing from one to another. Benefits from a network marketing business are not immediate they take a while. This is called delayed ratification. If you decided to change network marketing companies educate yourself and find the business that is best for you.

Now there's a great question!
I know lots of people who like to take the victim role that are totally convinced that anyone making big bucks is ripping the little guy off.
So let's put that one to bed…in MLM the little guy is a volunteer!
It's not that anyone is getting ripped off. It's the simple fact that in all businesses a small handful of high achievers make significantly more income than the average.

MLM is not a job where you're on a fixed salary and have to beg for a raise, while the President is entrenched at the top making the big income. In MLM everyone is the President of their own business and they can write their own income check…if they want to work for it.
You start in MLM the same place everyone else started and from then on it's up to you. In the typical compensation plan you can make some money selling the product at retail. Often the retail price is quite prohibitive so you end up selling at wholesale-customers like to feel they're getting a deal--and you earn the distributors override on your product sales. That override varies, but in my MLM company, its 10% to 20% depending how my business is structured.

Many people like to start by setting up a network of preferred retail customers, often around the world, who can order and pay for their own products online. A series of emails keeps you in touch and many of these customers find customers of their own so they enroll as a distributor. And so your business grows and your income grows via your 10% to 20% override on sales.
It's a very efficient process, but by some this is considered the slow way to start. But on the plus side the income is typically all residual so it's a rock solid business.

Others, and possibly this is the majority, like to make the override on the bigger sale of the starter packages, so they begin with a program of recruitment and teach their new associates to do the same.
Getting customers is often an overlooked segment of MLM, where many associates focus on recruitment and personal consumption only.
In my opinion if you want a rock solid business then you want to do both; teach your team to make sure their monthly qualifying volume is more than covered by retail sales. That way they're always making some money and they don't fall away. Besides, getting customers is a lot easier than finding a willing candidate for sponsoring.

In a business built like this you truly can retire on your residual income!
